Sarah McLachlan - Sweet Surrender Lyrics Meaning
I feel like this song is pretty straight forward. Many men are left puzzled by female behavior and psychology, and this song really exposes the deep recesses of a woman’s mind. Women naturally want to submit to a force stronger than them. But especially so when they themselves already feel inadequate. This behavior can be a positive when channeled into a safe loving relationship, but devestating when lost too many times in relationships that don’t last or end well. In other words, the highest form of famine love is surrrender and when it is cast aside; there is only a cold room, memories and a hardened heart. The feminine convinces herself that the surrender was foolishness and she is strong, independent, and in control. This feeling though ultimately does not make her happy, so she thinks to herself, that maybe she just didn’t surrender enough, which makes her even feel even more inadequate and lowering her self esteem. It is ultimately a tragedy, as this is viscous cycle, often complicated by drug use and promiscuity. But by itself, unabused, surrender is the sweetest and highest form of love. Please don’t ever find yourself in abuse of it it is painful.
