Princess Beatrice has cancelled her posh-tent palace wedding reception

I generally think the Windsors have flubbed their response to the coronavirus pandemic. Maybe the argument could be made that they were taking advice from Boris Johnson and his government and BoJo was the one to f–k it up (which is true), but still, the Queen is old as dirt and she should have understood how big this was going to be. She thought she could just keep her head in the sand and keep carrying on, and then suddenly sh-t got real. She’s decamping to Windsor Castle today, and Prince Philip will join her there. Nearly all of the public events on each royal figure’s schedule has been cancelled for the next two or three months. And yet… Princess Beatrice hasn’t actually cancelled her wedding. Instead, she’s just cancelling the Buckingham Palace posh-rent reception. ORLY?

Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are adjusting plans for their upcoming summer nuptials. Initially, the couple were scheduled to celebrate their marriage with a lavish reception in the gardens of Buckingham Palace, following a ceremony at the Chapel Royal at St. James’s Palace on May 29. Buckingham Palace has since released a statement expressing concern over going forward with the ceremony in the midst of so much uncertainty surrounding coronavirus and how long it will continue to affect travel, events, and social gatherings worldwide.

“Princess Beatrice and Mr. Mapelli Mozzi are very much looking forward to getting married but are equally aware of the need to avoid undertaking any unnecessary risks in the current circumstances. In line with government advice for the UK and beyond, the couple are reviewing their arrangements for 29th May,” read a statement from Buckingham Palace.

The announcement did not confirm whether or not Beatrice and Mozzi’s marriage will be postponed until next year, or if the couple will continue with a much smaller ceremony and downsized guest list. The reception will no longer take place at the Buckingham Palace Gardens, however.

“They are particularly conscious of government advice in relation to both the wellbeing of older family members and large gatherings of people. Therefore, the planned reception in the Buckingham Palace Gardens will not take place. The couple will carefully consider government advice before deciding whether a private marriage might take place amongst a small group of family and friends,” continued the statement.

All of that sucking up to the Queen for naught. Bea won’t even get her posh tent in the garden. She’ll have to get married at some courthouse like a peasant. I mean, I do feel sorry for her and all of the brides having to cancel their weddings or postpone certain things. It sucks. But in Beatrice’s case, I still feel like she should use this opportunity to RUN. Call it off.
