IMAX Sydney opens in Darling Harbour with worlds 4th biggest screen
The world’s fourth biggest IMAX screen has just opened in Sydney.
So how big is it?
“It’s six storeys high,” explained Luke Mackey, Director of Entertainment Australia at EVT.
“The screen is roughly 29 metres by 24 metres, for a total of 692 square metres. It is enormous!”
The new cinema, which is only the second IMAX in Australia (the other one is in Melbourne), is located in Darling Harbour.
Downstairs there’s a self-service marketplace where customers can purchase tickets and snacks, and upstairs there’s a bar where customers can have a cheeky cocktail or two before a film.
Inside the actual cinema, there are four different seating options to choose from.
There are standard seats, full recliner seats, couples seats (no hanky panky allowed), and two rather fancy private boxes.
Located at the back of the cinema, the private boxes each seat four people and come with reserved seating in the IMAX bar, a premium beverage on arrival, access to a chef-curated menu with service to your seat before the movie and unlimited classic salted popcorn.
The first films that will be shown at IMAX Sydney include The Creator, Top Gun: Maverick and Avatar: The Way of Water.
“We’ve also got Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour for all the Swifties out there opening on Friday night,” Mr Mackey told news.com.au. “Tickets are selling fast for that one so you’d better get in early.”
