Exclusive: Interview With Allie X
Allie X is such a versatile artist, that you’ve probably heard (and loved) her music before you even put her name to it. Everything from electronic pop to her amazing collaborations with the likes of Troye Sivan, make her the quintessential musician to have on your musical roster. We sat down with the brilliant Allie X to talk about how she describes her sound, her dream collaboration, and her plans for the future.
Are you excited to play today?
Allie X: Very excited. I have some British relatives that are all freaking out that I’m playing Hyde Park because It’s such a historical, famous place.
So how would you describe your sound. We know you’ve said things about Disney…
Allie X: Yeah, Sometimes people say like I’m kind of like a warped Disney princess sound. I call my genre electronic D Tune, dream pop.
You’ve contributed to Troye Sivan’s album Blue Neighborhood. What was it like to work with someone so close and writing?
Allie X: I always write a lot for myself and for others because that’s just what I do. But for Troye in particular it was a really awesome experience. He really knew he wanted and he’s a super smart, cool person. It was myself, him, Bram the producer, and Leland, who I write a lot with for my project as well, and yeah we just did it over like a course of a year and it happened really naturally and we’re all really proud of ‘Blue Neighborhood’
From that, what would be your dream collaboration of anyone? Alive or dead?
Allie X: I…
It’s a hard question.
Allie X: Yea, I’m gonna say Tina Turner right now. (laughs)
That is a good answer though!
Allie X: I would love to work with Tina Turner. There’s just too many, that’s sort of one I’m picking at random .
So what are your plans for the future?
Allie X: Yea, Collection 2. I’ve started releasing potential songs for Collection 2 going to be my next body of work and right now it’s just singles, until I completely decide on what tracks will be on the album and that’s very much to do with the fan response of the songs i’m putting out right now
